Following the PS10 in 2007, the PS20 turned out to be the world’s largest commercial solar power tower that is capable of producing 20 megawatts of power. In simple words, enough power to drive as many as 10,000 homes 24×7.
The PS20 makes use of 1,255 motorized mirrors, which are termed as heliostats, each with a mammoth surface area of 1,291 square feet. This is the second tower collection is Spain and definitely proves countries dedication towards going green.
Gone are the days when people had to rely on sun rise to generate industrial solar power, because now you can generate as much as you want and save the extra power with the help of batteries. So, this simply means the PS20 will be able to power up 9500-10,000 homes even during winter and rainy seasons without any problems. Currently the heat can be stored up to seven hours, but researchers are working on improving it to 12 hours, ensuring 24×7 non-stop working.
